Wedding Dress size conspiracy a.k.a BULLSHIT

So I'm a little annoyed by the Wedding dress industry. I went and bought my dress (yippee for me) but the celebration came to a sour end when they told me I was a size 18!!!! WHAT??????? WAIT....come again?

I mean really.... I may have large cha cha's and a slightly (or more) round tush but certainly no damn 18.. ok, ok I could use more sit ups in my life BUT COME ON.

I'm in retail ladies and not only is it hard enough buying your actual size (I'm a 10by the way) but if designers where smart (and some are) they would purposely size clothes slightly off in our favor and the sales would jump. But to triple it....how does that make sense? And to triple it on a dress that cost more then anything you will buy (clothing wise) in your life for a day that you want to feel and look your best? F**KED up if you ask me...
I was, needless to say beyond annoyed by this whole back-assward process in the "wedding dress world" BUT as the week went on every time I went to eat or wanted to be too lazy to go to the gym a little bird in my head would say "size 18....size 18....size 18" .........SO..... enter in the conspiracy part of this. Did they jack up the dress sizes to put you in a mental war with yourself that makes you work out and stop eating??????

ummmmmmm.......it's a thought right? So now am I pissed or thankful? Because since then I have hit up spin class, running and got back on my diet.

Either way...total BULLSHIT.

On top of planning my wedding (not that I have done much in that dept) and working full time I have been fully booked every weekend doing family photos or weddings so needless to say I have been a busy bee..... My mom came into town last night and brought me her old wedding dress......to my surprise it actually fits me!!!!

It was really crazy wearing it because:

1) I really do look just like my mom
2) My father passed away a couple of years ago and it is just really interesting to think of the 2 of them as "Mr. To BE" & I are now..young..in love...getting married.. it's touching to have something that important with me
3) It fits me (ok ok so I just had to say it again)
4) It actually is really pretty..... way to go Mom even in 1973 you still had bad ass taste!

I'm so pimp in this dress....just sayin...

So.... another year has come and gone and I am now reaching the scarrrrry age where my actions just don't fit into the "funny" OR "cute" category. I guess at some point I will start acting like a adult.....but this is just not that year.

For my birthday this year I had a 70's bowling party where all of my great friends put on their best "Blast from the Past" ridiculous costume to bowl and karaoke...was a GREAT time, but I must share with you the best gift I received.

Just when I didn't think my "Mr. To Be" had a romantic bone in his body he suprises me... this is what I woke up to on my birthday..

So in continuation of my last post about creating my bouquet out of my mom's wedding dress I had to show you where I got some of the idea from....

My friend "Lola" just got married over the weekend, her and "MR. Lola" had the big day in Costa Rica on the beach. She wore a hot, all white one piece bathing suite and had her mom's dress recreated into a high wasted skirt topping it off with a amazing necklace. She even kept the train as it's original and wore the flower from her mom's veil. She looked AMAZING....

When it comes to flowers at a wedding, they are really pretty but they are also a pretty penny. So.....in my attempt to plan this "Ghetto Chic Wedding" I'm looking for all possible ways to save a penny, spend a penny, make a penny etc.....

My mom called me the other day to let me know that she found her wedding dress, the rad 70's dress she wore to marry my father.... She tells me, "I know you're not going to wear it or anything but maybe you can use pieces of it just to have with you".....and BING the light goes off!!! THANKS MOM

I'm going to use my mom's wedding dress to create a bouquet of flowers for my self and along with a rad hair piece attached to the bird cage veil. Add in a couple jewels to it and Badda Bing....

1) I have a sentimental bouquet made out of my mom's wedding dress
2) I have the "Something Old" part of the tradition covered
3) SAVED MONEY :)
4) I can keep it forever

First Party Is Approching.....

2 dayzzz and counting until our first "wedding" related party. We have our engagement party on Saturday, and all the out-of-towners start rolling in tomorrow. I'm really excited to see everyone.......my MOH "Ace" has done such an amazing job organizing everything...
I'm super nervous about it thou, nothing like having everyone from all different stages, ages and sections of your life all under the same roof. This whole mixing people, places and things is still new to me and unfamiliar.

The party was great... I made all Weight Watcher friendly food (operation bride body) and tried out the "Skinny Girl" margarita's that I previously blog over. We had lost of fun and played NO bridal games (only because I couldn't find any cool ones)

These little Thank You bags where so easy and so cheap to make...great idea for Wedding Guest Bags. You can get the bags at Target .49 cents for a pack of 12. The stamp you can get at any craft shop, then I just punched a whole in it and strung in the tie...super easy! We filled it with the brides favorite candy and her Save the Dates.

The Most Interesting Day

Like I have mentioned before my friend Angela and I are both getting married, so going through the process together is allot more fun. We went to The White House in CDM on Wednesday to try on dresses.

First let me tell you, the place is amazing. The dresses are breathtaking and the service was top notch...

but..... as I'm talking weddings and drinking champagne, Jessica who was the coolest stylist, was in the dressing room with me helping me step out of one white puff and into another....starts to tell me about her wedding that was coming up. After hearing all the amazing details I ask her "You have to have a blog, your wedding sounds to cool" well I was right she was MASON JAR BRIDE!!! A blog I totally follow! Imagine how fun that was, not only was she the most helpful, creative, raddest stylist to have during the craziness of wedding dress shopping but I'M ONE OF HER FANS! I was so excited I started jumping up and down in the dressing room (naked of course)

I know this sounds dumb but when you look at blogs daily these cool girls that you read about and follow become like little celebrities to you. Needless to say it was an interesting experience BUT I would tell anyone in California that is looking for a dress to go to The White Dress and have Jessica help you... she is RAD!!!

My friend Angela and I are both getting married and she had this amazing idea. We went down to home Depot and looked at the color chips to see what we wanted our wedding color palette to be. Now let me tell you, I didn't think much of it at the time BUT this is SO helpful!!! To see the colors together, and to have that in your hand as an "inspiration board"....... I thought I was going to add in orange to my palette but after playing with all the paint chips I decided on yellow!

This is my color palette:
White = background, table linen, napkins etc..
Green = succulents and greenery
Yellow = the flowers
Blues = the turquoise jewelry for the bridesmaids
Choc Brown = the dresses of the bridesmaids

OK, so we all know I'm on "Operation Bad Ass Bride Body" which most of us are....and I LOVE MARGARITA'S but they are so bad for you. I came across this recipe in my daily emails from Hungry Girl......only the best weekly emails EVER. I suggest everyone sign up for it...but I wanted to share the recipe with all of you... HAPPY DRINKING!

HG's Magical Low-Calorie Margarita

(Entire recipe: 115 calories, 0g fat, 55mg sodium, 2g carbs, 0g fiber, <0.5g sugars, 0g protein = 2 Points)

Ingredients:
3/4 cup Sierra Mist Free (or Diet Sprite Zero, or your other fave no-cal lemon-lime soda)
*1.5 oz. tequila
1 packet (two 5-calorie servings) sugar-free powdered drink mix, lemonade (like the one by Crystal Light) 2 tbsp. lime juice
Optional: lime slice for garnish and salt or no-calorie sweetener for rim of glass

Directions:
If desired, run some lime juice along the rim of the glass and dip into a dish of salt or sweetener. Mix all ingredients together. Pour over 1 cup of crushed ice. Optional: Garnish with lime slice. Enjoy. Serves 1!

Trying on wedding dresses is a very strange feeling. You know you're getting married, you know you love this man and you are excited BUT it's also so strange. Maybe because I'm older (31...scary) and the fairytale of it all is more of a realistic viewpoint, maybe because I've been alone so long that it feels out of place? Boo and I meet with a caterer last night from Country Garden Caterers. What a great time we had!! Diana Perkins[Dianap@countrygardencaterers.com] was totally cool, so funny and just an all around great lady. The food was fantastic and the prices were VERY reasonable.

We started off with a salad that had candied pecans, feta cheese and a soft dressing. We sampled Poached Salmon with lemon-caper cream sauce, Roasted Tri-Tip with Jack Daniels glaze AND Tequila-Lime Chicken, garlic Mash potatoes and veggies.

She topped it off with a sampler platter of her cake options (see picture) I was pretty much in heaven.

She was straight to the point, no hidden fees like "cake cutting" or "cork" fees or "guaranteed" head count...

I'm pretty much sold.....

This past weekend I had the pleasure to join my friend.....let's just call her Hottie to Be's bachlorette(another word that the spelling of it is just beyond me) weekend in Palm Springs. Her Maid of Honor had the cutest idea of getting all of us towels with our names initialed on them. This way while we were lounging fabulously at the spa pool we would stand out. (not that we didn't already)

So it's been set! The first official party in what I hope is a LONG line of partys leading up to the big shebang.......
The hardest thing about this is that my family and maid of honor are in Arizona. But being the gangster that she is, my maid of honor and my amazing hot group of bridesmaids are pulling it together and the date is set for a back yard bash.

Now the only thing is the invites.... I'm going with a DIY post card style. Wish me luck because I'm making them myself.

Ok.....so many of you already know (or can see) that I am pretty much the worst speller past the 2nd grade. And blogging, although I do love it, is probably one of the hardest things I've had to do because I am glued to my dictionary all day. Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news BUT the biggest bullshit is the things people tell you to "help" you on your way to trying to be "smarter then a 5th grader".......let me break down the SPELLING LIE as I see it

1. SOUND IT OUT....Bullshit. Then explain Tortilla, where does the LL come in when "sounding it out" or Pneumonia....ummmm?!?! Where does the P come in or the U?
2. STUPID SPELLING RHYMES....."I before E except after C" Bullshit..... explain Weird. No C, no A sound???
3. LOOK IT UP IN THE DICTIONARY...this is my personal favorite. Hello!!!!! Most the time I don't even know how the word starts, let alone look it up!
4. SPELL CHECK....refer back to number 3 for this one because half the time spell check doesn't even recognize what I'm trying to say.

Now mind you, I'm not stupid girl (or so I think) my brain just does not remember words........I brain fart every time I go to write anything down. BUT everyone should know that these "spelling" tools are just for maintenance NOT for real help. To all mothers out there..... pressure your child to read books and enter spelling bees because otherwise life is just a bit frustrating.

and yes that is a Pabst Blue Ribbon beer behind my dictionary. Maybe that's my spelling problem? :)

So it might actually happen, I may or may not have made a decision (maybe, yikes)
I'm kinda diggin The Red Horse Barn for my venue.

It has the things I want,

1) It's outside....I want LOTS of twinkle lights
2) Not an arm and a leg cost ($2,400 site fee)
3) Has a bride and groom room for staging
4) I can make it my own

2 months engaged and I think I can finally check one of the boxes on the "To Do List" (maybe)

I went to look at The Hacienda as a possible place to have my wedding, this place is a great deal. Everything included, food, bar, cake, rental and all BUT if you take a looksy at the picture above you will see the tacky benches and "turtle pots" right in the way of the ceremony place.
You say no biggie? Me too because I assumed that along with these things, all the pottery roosters, hanging chillies and fake sunflowers could be moved for the $10,000 price tag the place was going to cost.... but like they always say when you "assume" you only make an ass out of you and me.
Can you believe that they wouldn't even budge on moving a few things out of the way for my wedding???? It's a shame because I was about sold on the place and out of the misery of venue shopping and NOPE...business lost all over a $10,000 turtle pot.

Location, Location, Location, Location........

As if all the small details of your life weren't stressful enough, finding this "little" thing called your wedding location is a dozy!
I'm telling you, for any of those wannabe entrepreneurs out there if you have a nice patch-o-grass in your back yard start selling it as a venue! Recession proof AND you'll be rich!
All I'm looking for is a nice outside location where I can gather all my friends, have it not look like an episode of "White Trash Weddings" (big ups though, that shit is funny) and to marry the man I love.... not to much to ask you say?
Like my good friend Janet says.....like everything else in life it all comes down to the same common denominator $$$$$$$

Anybody have advice out there? Feel free to fill me up......

I WILL think positive, this WILL get done, it WILL be amazing and I WON'T spend a grip... (my daily motivational speech)

So like any good little wedding planner, I do plan on having gifts for my guests... Although the open bar should be a gift enough....I'm just sayin......and being the fact that I am proudly wearing the crown of "BROKE AS HELL BRIDE" thinking outside the box is the only way to go.
My amazingly talented Mom came up with a brilliant idea, Wine Jelly!
When we were both obsessively going through the Internet to come up with ideas my mom found a lady that makes wine jelly. Not just regular jelly but this jelly can be used for cooking, baking, putting on crackers etc....
The cool thing about this company, not only is owner's name Betty Davis (yes she does have Betty Davis Eyes) but she is so great to work with and can make custom printed labels for each bottle along with hand painted wine glasses.
I'm telling you for all those broke brides out there (and winos, self proclaimed) this company has such great prices and the product is outstanding!

I have started with running twice a week with my friends Kaka and TT.... (nicknames of course) all in the efforts of not being ashamed even when I'm fully clothed.

My goal is 15 lbs and less milkshake with my french fries...if you know what I mean *wink*wink*

beginner blogger

I'm new to this whole reading, writing and understanding the "blogger" thing but I must say since getting engaged a little over a month ago I've become obsessed.

I get lost in the world of the blogs at least a couple hours a day (sorry work) and I felt like I just had to join in.

Planning a wedding on a half of a dime, and I mean that literally, is a frustrating process. I'm hoping for a Classy + Trashy theme...... weighing more on the "classy" part but with a "trashy" price tag.

I am blessed to have the greatest group of girlfriends that are so creative to help me through this craziness.........thank you my biatches...

I've been inspired by many of your blogs and hopefully I can be of some service to the next round of broke, frustrated brides to be out there.
